Digital Interpretation Consultant

West Midlands Historic Buildings Trust (WMHBT) is seeking to appoint a consultant to digitally capture, interpret, and present the history of St Michael’s Place, Warwick, to members of the public and stakeholders throughout the delivery phase of The National Lottery Heritage Fund-funded ‘St Michael’s Place – A Homely Future’ project. We are open to ideas here. This could be a game, VR or AR environment.

We anticipate the digital interpretation for this project being an integral part of our community engagement. Alongside a more traditional series of engagement activities, the digital engagement should promote accessibility and maximum reach, enabling and encouraging a wide range of people with diverse backgrounds to directly engage with past history and with heritage craft skills that remain relevant as career opportunities today.

We expect that the successful candidate will:
  • Create An Immersive Journey Through Time digitally.
  • Produce an engaging video game, or VR or AR experience incorporating the history of the site, be it web-based or utilising a pre-existing game platform. The final product will be free for the end user.
  • Feature 15th and 16th century building techniques including stone masonry, timber frame building construction etc.
  • Make the video game or VR or AR experience accessible for as wide an audience as possible, enabling it to be demonstrated at future events, in schools (target age to be agreed) and possibly via our website. Safeguarding requirements are to be considered and incorporated when planning and delivering the digital interpretation.
  • Create a digital experience for players to play through a sequence of short pieces of character driven narrative, followed by simple construction mini-games.
  • Take part in public engagement opportunities such as Heritage Open Days (September each year).
Budget £160,000.00 with an additional £10,000.00 available for photogrammetry of the site.
Closing date for receipt of tenders is 12pm 29th April 2026
