Willow Court Farmhouse Exhibition Launch Event
Join us to celebrate the opening of our Willow Court Farmhouse exhibition!
The launch will take place on the 1st of July at Droitwich Heritage Centre from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm. Come and meet the team who are hard at work on the project, our wonderful volunteers and learn more about the history of the Farmhouse and the surrounding estate.
The exhibition, co-curated with project volunteers, showcases this exciting project to rescue and convert the Grade II listed Willow Court Farmhouse, formerly known as Boycott Farmhouse, into affordable housing.
This ambitious project, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, has included researching and sharing the history of the Westlands Estate and Droitwich Spa.

Golden Lion Pub Restoration: Exclusive Scaffolding Tour 5th June 2026 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Join us for a behind the tour of this amazing conservation effort of one of Birmingham’s oldest surviving pubs.
The Golden Lion is one of Birmingham’s oldest surviving pubs, with origins in the 16th century and important later alterations reflecting the city’s commercial development. Currently undergoing conservation by Birmingham Conservation Trust with Oliver Architecture and Reynolds Conservation, the project is revealing significant historic fabric and construction techniques that are rarely accessible to visitors.
This special visit provides the opportunity to inspect the building at close quarters from scaffold level. Visitors will see details of timber framing, masonry and repairs while hearing directly from the project team about the challenges and discoveries involved in conserving a complex historic structure.”
Paid parking is available at Cannon Hill Park East Car Park, Russell Road, B13 8RD, which is a 5-minute walk away.
This visit will include a scaffold tour which will involve steps and ladders, and will therefore not be suitable for those with mobility issues or those with a fear of heights. Please wear sensible, closed-toe shoes, and clothes which you will not mind getting dirty.
Meet outside the Golden Lion in Cannon Hill Park. Please arrive no later than 10:50am, the tour will begin promptly at 11am.

An introduction to photographing historic buildings with a smartphone 8th June
Monday 8th June 2026, 1.00-3.30pm, Rotary House, Corbett Avenue, Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire
Join James of JDA media as we explore Droitwich Spa and learn how to take great photos of some of the historic buildings in the town using just your smart phone.
The session will start at Rotary House, Corbett Avenue but after short introduction we shall be exploring Lido Park and Droitwich’s famous wonky High Street to practice our new techniques. Sensible waling shoes and clothes appropriate to the weather are a must. You will need to bring your own smartphone.
Digitising Documents: An Introduction 19th June
Join the Worcestershire Archive team to learn how they digitise documents and get some tips for digitising your own documents at home
This is an informal workshop with the opportunity to ask questions.

Introduction to local history research 15th June 1-3.30pm
This workshop will introduce you to some of the tools and techniques that you can use when researching local history.
The workshop will include some activities to get you thinking and help you explore some of the highs and lows of research. This event is aimed at anyone curious about getting started on local history research.

Guided Walk: Dudley No. 2 Canal Trail
Saturday 21st February, 10:30am - 12:30pm
Join us for a guided walk exploring the industrial heritage of the Dudley No2 Canal.
This trail, which has been devised by Trustee Philip Adams and WMHT Heritage Assistant Poppy Griffiths, features paintings and drawings completed by Philip in the 1950s/60s. It highlights features which have changed or ceased to exist and the walk takes about two hours along the towpath providing a pleasantly changed landscape of scenery and history from Hawne Basin to Windmill End.
Joining us on the walk will be well-known poet Heather Wastie, who has written about this canal and will recite and play for us some pieces which reflect the canal’s past life. Philip Adams will speak about his art and reminisce about early experiences on the canal.
Please note that this walk will take approximately 2 hours. The path is mostly flat, aside from short up/downhill sections, however there are limited opportunities to rest and no toilet facilities once the walk has commenced.
There is a charge of £10 per person for this event.

Dudley 2 Canal HoDs 2025 – Architecture Walk

Black Country Boating Festival at Bumble Hole Nature Reserve, Windmill End, Dudley, West Midlands, DY2 9HS
Join us for a guided walk along Dudley Canal 2 and the launch of Dudley Canal 2 Heritage Picture Trail.
During the walk we will explore the real life places depicted in the work of local artist Phillip Adams.
The walk celebrates the launch of a new trail map of this section of the canal, containing artwork of key points along the canal by West Midlands Heritage Trustee Philip Adams. Phillip will accompany the group and explore how he created the images. You will be able to compare the artwork, created from the 1950s -1970s to the current buildings and landscape of the canal.
The walk will begin at 3pm at the site of the Black Country Boating Festival, Participants will be transported to the start of the walk via minibus, and the walk will terminate back at the Festival. It will last approximately 2 hours
Sensible shoes should be worn, along with appropriate clothing for the weather. We won’t cancel for rain, but may cancel in the event of extreme weather conditions.
Places are limited so early booking is essential.
The walk is approx. 2.5 miles on mostly flat ground – there is one stretch containing a short, steep walk up and downhill as the trail passes over a tunnel.
During the day the West Midlands Heritage Team will be at Black Country Boating Festival. Why not come and visit us to learn more about our work and have a go at a make and take activity.
